NO DEMONSTRATIONS-HRDC

November 23, 2025
The Human Rights Defenders Coalition-HRDC says it has no immediate plans to organise demonstrations against some socio-economic challenges Malawians are facing.
Addressing the media in Lilongwe, the HRDC, led by its chairperson Michael Kayiyatsa and other senior officials said while there are challenges like fuel scarcity, they believe that the DPP led government will urgently address the issues concerned.
Kayiyatsa also maintained that HRDC is apolitical, dismissing assertions that it supports a particular political party.
He also condemned what he called threats towards human rights defenders in the country, particularly online, saying such a tendency does not augur well with the democratic dispensation.
Kaiyatsa also disclosed that they have introduced a grant aimed at providing legal and security support, among others, to human rights defenders who have been attacked both physically or otherwise.
